World Women’s Champions Head to Grand Forks

The 2008 World Women’s Champions, Team Jennifer Jones, will be in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Saturday, April 12th to attend the World Men’s Curling Championships.

The rink consisting of Jennifer Jones – Skip; Cathy Overton-Clapham – Third; Jill Officer – Second; Dawn Askin – Lead; and Jennifer Clark-Rouire – Fifth, will be guests of Canad Inns, who want to thank Jennifer and her team for representing Manitoba and Canada so well.

“We are extremely proud of Team Jennifer Jones,” said Leo Ledohowski, President of Canad Inns. “They have represented Winnipeg, Manitoba and Canada with class, determination and unbelievable talent and are truly great ambassadors for the sport of curling and for Canada.”

There will be a number of opportunities for the public to meet and congratulate the five curlers, beginning with an Autograph Session in the Broken Broom Lounge at the Ralph Engelstad Arena at 12:00 noon on Saturday.

“This is a great opportunity for us to visit with many curling fans and thank them for the support they have shown us,” said Cathy Overton-Clapham.

The Ralph and the Men’s World Curling Championship will honor the team on ice at the fifth end break of the Semi Final Game (1:30 pm ) on Saturday.

Jody Hodgson, General Manager of the Ralph, said, “We are excited and honored at the opportunity to recognize our “local” world champs.”

The celebration will be completed with a Championship Toast at the Canad Inns Destination Center-Grand Forks at approximately 5:30 pm. “We hope that all fans of Team Jennifer Jones will join with us in a toast to these great champions,” said Ledohowski.

In addition to being the 2008 World Women’s Champions, the Jennifer Jones Team is also the 2008 Canadian Scotties Tournament of Heart Champions and the 2008 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Heart Champions.
